INDIANAPOLIS — A harrowing incident unfolded at the Baymont Inn at 3850 Eagle View Dr. in Indianapolis, where a mother reportedly shot a convicted child molester who allegedly attempted to rape her 12-year-old daughter in a hotel room, according to court documents.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to the scene following a report of an attempted rape. Upon arrival, they discovered that a man had been shot at the hotel. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, has prior child molestation convictions in two counties, court records indicate.

Authorities say the suspect had been communicating with the 12-year-old girl online and over the phone prior to the incident. The nature of these communications and how the suspect arranged to meet the girl at the hotel are under investigation.

According to court documents, the mother intervened when she discovered the suspect attempting to assault her daughter. In a decisive act to protect her child, she shot the man. Details regarding the mother’s identity, the condition of the suspect, and whether charges will be filed have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.

The IMPD has not released additional information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the extent of the suspect’s injuries. The case has drawn significant attention due to the suspect’s prior convictions and the mother’s actions to defend her daughter.

This incident highlights the dangers of online predation, as the suspect reportedly used digital communication to target the young girl. Authorities are likely to examine the online interactions to determine how the suspect gained access to the victim.

The investigation remains active, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the IMPD or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
