Mike Braun Wins Indiana Governor’s Race, Returning to State-Level Leadership

Indianapolis, IN - November 5, 2024

In a decisive victory, Republican U.S. Senator Mike Braun has won the Indiana governor's race, marking a return to state-level leadership and extending the GOP's influence in Indiana. Braun, a seasoned conservative with a strong business background, will leave his U.S. Senate seat after choosing not to seek re-election, fulfilling a campaign promise to focus on bringing his experience back to his home state.

Braun, who first entered Indiana politics as a member of the state House of Representatives from District 63 in 2014, resigned from his state seat in 2017 to run for the U.S. Senate. He won his Senate seat in 2018, assuming office in 2019 and quickly establishing himself as a pro-business conservative with a commitment to reducing government regulation and prioritizing Indiana’s economic growth.

During his gubernatorial campaign, Braun emphasized a vision of Indiana that prioritizes economic strength, limited government intervention, and family values. His platform resonated with voters across the state, securing substantial support in rural counties and among small-business owners who appreciated his experience as an entrepreneur and commitment to conservative fiscal policies. Braun’s experience managing his own company, Meyer Distributing, was a cornerstone of his campaign, with promises to “run Indiana like a business” by cutting red tape, promoting job creation, and increasing government efficiency.

The governor-elect highlighted key issues that his administration will prioritize, including improving infrastructure, enhancing public safety, and defending Indiana's agricultural interests. He also expressed concerns over federal government overreach and vowed to uphold conservative principles on social issues, securing enthusiastic support from voters aligned with his stance on parental rights, the role of faith in public life, and the Second Amendment.

Braun’s win ensures that Indiana will continue under Republican leadership, with outgoing Governor Eric Holcomb having served two terms since 2017. Braun praised Holcomb's administration while outlining his own plans to further strengthen the state’s economy and enhance the quality of life for Hoosiers. In his victory speech, Braun expressed gratitude to Indiana voters, saying, “Indiana is where my heart has always been, and I am honored to serve as governor of this incredible state. Together, we will continue building a strong, prosperous future for every Hoosier family.”

The Republican-controlled state legislature is expected to align with Braun’s initiatives, giving him a strategic advantage in pushing forward his policies.

With this victory, Braun will step down from his U.S. Senate role, vacating a seat that has garnered substantial attention from national Republicans. His departure from the Senate will open the door for a new face to represent Indiana in Washington, with a special election likely to be held to fill his seat.

As Indiana’s new governor, Mike Braun now faces the task of transitioning from federal politics back to state governance, a move he says will allow him to focus on issues closer to home. Hoosiers who supported his campaign are optimistic that his blend of business acumen and conservative values will lead Indiana into an era of continued growth and prosperity.
