Man Dead, Suspect in Custody Following Shooting at Amazon Facility in Hancock County

In the early hours of Friday morning, a deadly shooting unfolded in the parking lot of an Amazon distribution and fulfillment center in Hancock County, leaving one man dead and another in custody.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies arrived at the facility, located at 7114 W. 200 N. in Greenfield, around 1:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered 39-year-old Isaac Riley of Indianapolis lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Riley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspected shooter was present in the parking lot and surrendered to law enforcement without incident. According to a press release from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the individual had his hands raised and cooperated fully with deputies, as did witnesses to the incident.

“This appears to be an isolated incident between two people and the shooting appears to be in self-defense,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.

Authorities have chosen not to release the identity of the suspected shooter at this time. Both individuals involved in the altercation were employees of the Amazon facility, which has temporarily suspended operations at its DIN8 warehouse in response to the tragic event.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials are working to piece together the circumstances that led to the deadly encounter.
