Indianapolis, IN – June 3, 2026 In a city already drowning in blood and failed leadership, another innocent life has been brutally snuffed out — this time, a bright 23-year-old Indiana University Kelley School of Business standout, gunned down like an animal while simply trying to enjoy a night out with his family.
Brett Scrogham — a top-100 student, recent finance and real estate graduate, and brand-new development analyst at Kittle Property Group — was heading into the Plaza Park Garage near the Indiana Convention Center on May 28 when a 14-year-old Black boy allegedly pumped a bullet into his head. Scrogham clung to life before dying from the horrific wound. He was on his way to meet his parents for an Indianapolis Indians game at Victory Field. Instead, his dreams died in a pool of blood in a downtown parking garage by a black 14 year old boy.
IMPD finally made an arrest on June 3, crediting surveillance video, evidence, and witness statements for nailing the young killer. But here's the real outrage: Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears — the same soft-on-crime Democrat who's been blasted by everyone from U.S. Sen. Jim Banks to Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith — reportedly will not pursue capital murder charges against this juvenile predator.
That's right. A promising young White man with his whole future ahead of him is executed in broad daylight steps from the Convention Center, and the system is already preparing kid gloves for the shooter.Friends and family remember Brett as a "servant-hearted, faith-filled" young man who touched countless lives — the kind of Hoosier who paid for buddies' meals, rescued dogs as a kid, and was destined for big things. Now his loved ones are left planning a funeral instead of celebrating his new career.
Witnesses described "suspicious males" lurking in the garage right before the shot rang out. This wasn't some tragic accident — it was a random, senseless slaughter in a downtown Indianapolis that Mayor Joe Hogsett and his cronies keep insisting is "safe."
Enough is enough. Indianapolis is hemorrhaging under years of Democrat rule, soft-on-crime prosecutors, and revolving-door "justice" that treats teenage killers like wayward youth instead of the dangerous threats they are. Sen. Banks called Mears a "prosecutor gone rogue" who refuses to lock up violent criminals — and this case proves it.
Where are the parents of this 14-year-old assassin? Why is a child running around downtown with a gun? And why does Marion County keep failing to protect law-abiding citizens while coddling the chaos? Hoosier Enquirer has been sounding the alarm on this failed city for years. The blood of Brett Scrogham is on the hands of those who prioritize politics over public safety. Indiana needs to step in and take over this mess before more innocent lives are destroyed. Rest in peace, Brett. Your story won't be buried like so many others in this broken system. If you have information, contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers. And demand real justice — not the slap-on-the-wrist variety.
