After Leaving Indiana Politics Behind, Pete Buttigieg Faces New Family Scrutiny

Former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and his male husband, Chasten Buttigieg, recently disclosed that their family became the subject of a Michigan child welfare investigation following allegations concerning the couple's four-year-old twins. The children were "interrogated."

Gay parents are less scrutinized by DCS/child protective service agencies based on statistics reviewed by HE.

The episode has once again placed Buttigieg, one of Indiana's most prominent modern political figures, back in the national spotlight seeking support and sympathy, but also reminding the majority the he was blamed for taking his federal maternity leave after being appointed Secretary of Transportation, pretending to ride a bike to the White House, and allowing air travel to go backwards in his 4 years.

Before rising to national prominence, Buttigieg experienced mixed political success in Indiana. He won election as mayor of South Bend in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. However, his lone statewide campaign ended in defeat when he lost the 2010 Democratic primary for Indiana State Treasurer.

After his unsuccessful presidential bid in 2020, Buttigieg went on to serve as U.S. Secretary of Transportation in the Biden administration and later relocated from Indiana to Michigan with his family.

Pete and Chasten Buttigieg publicly announced in 2021 that they had adopted twins, Joseph August ("Gus") and Penelope Rose.

The couple has chosen not to publicly discuss details regarding the children's biological family, citing privacy concerns. But this only skirts the question of where do gay men get children, and is there money or consideration paid to a mother for such a transaction.

As with many public figures, scrutiny of Buttigieg's personal and family life has intensified as his national profile has grown, adding another chapter to the political journey of the former Indiana mayor who ultimately found greater success on the national stage than in statewide Hoosier politics. His political future is largely over and his parenting life raised questions and likely will continue to be under a microscope. It's odd to many, sadly, and he is a very unlikely parent of twins.
