A Muncie police officer deactivated his body camera before unloading roughly five rounds into a one-year-old dog named Memphis during what was supposed to be a routine, non-criminal child support warrant — and the dog’s wounds are raising explosive questions about the officer’s own story.

According to the officer’s report, as detailed in a rapidly spreading local post, he deliberately turned his bodycam OFF before the encounter and only switched it back ON after the shooting. His written explanation: “Once the dog stopped moving towards me, I stopped firing my handgun at the dog.”

But if Memphis was charging toward the officer, why was the dog hit in both rear legs — one so badly destroyed it now requires amputation?

That’s the bombshell question lighting up Muncie. The location of the injuries appears to contradict a head-on advance. Without any bodycam footage of the actual shots, the public is left with nothing but the officer’s word and a report that conveniently has the camera dark at the critical moment.

The entire incident was casually logged as an “Animal Incident,” despite five gunshots from a police officer. Residents are furious. They want the dispatch records, every second of available bodycam, and an independent review of whether the physical evidence matches the official version.

Photos of Memphis resting under blankets after the shooting show the aftermath: a young dog now facing life with one less leg. The community is demanding answers under the growing call for #JusticeForMemphis.

Hoosier Enquirer is pressing the Muncie Police Department for the full story, the footage, and an explanation for why the camera was shut off. So far, silence. The public is watching.
