Indianapolis, Indiana: Indiana State Police have confirmed the arrest of 62-year-old Ricky McLatcher from Michigan for a heinous crime committed nearly four decades ago.

On a chilling October day in 1986, in LaGrange County, Indiana, right along the Michigan border, McLatcher allegedly kidnapped a woman and subjected her to at least two brutal assaults. This case, like many cold cases, seemed destined to remain unsolved, but the dedication of law enforcement proved otherwise.

The breakthrough came years after the initial crime when, in 2015, a detective revisited the case. Despite employing DNA testing at the time, the identity of the perpetrator remained elusive. However, the advent of advanced forensic technologies and persistent efforts led to further testing of the evidence a few years later, finally yielding a match to McLatcher.

On Tuesday, Michigan State Police acted on this discovery, arresting McLatcher, who now remains in Michigan, pending extradition back to Indiana to face charges for his alleged crimes from nearly 40 years ago.
