Golden Corral’s recent permanent closure in Brownsville, Texas, has drawn attention to the buffet chain’s restaurant shutdowns, but a review of available announcements found no confirmed new permanent closures in Indiana as of October 4.

The company’s official directory continues to list 12 Hoosier State restaurants, although several Indiana communities have lost locations in earlier years.

The Brownsville restaurant closed September 14 after more than 35 years in business, with customers notified September 24, according to MySA. Franchise operator Gaspar Hernandez cited renovation expenses and a proposed monthly rent increase from $17,500 to $31,000. The closure affected about 40 employees.

Golden Corral’s Indiana directory lists restaurants in Anderson, Bedford, Clarksville, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Greenwood, Indianapolis, Merrillville, Mishawaka, Richmond, Schererville and Terre Haute. The recent announcement does not identify any Indiana restaurants for closure.

Indiana’s earlier losses include two Indianapolis restaurants. The North Shadeland Avenue location, near 79th Street, closed in 2016. The restaurant at 10220 E. Washington St., near Washington Square Mall, closed during the COVID era; the vacant building subsequently suffered a fire in November 2024.

Kokomo’s restaurant at 287 S. 00 E/W also closed during the pandemic, according to The Kokomo Post. Warsaw’s location at 22 Capital Drive initially shut down in July 2014 because of plumbing problems and is listed as closed in later directories. The precise date when that closure became permanent was not established.

Third-party restaurant directories also list the Plainfield location at 2224 E. Hadley Road and Lafayette’s restaurant at 79 Shenandoah Drive as permanently closed. Their exact closure dates remain unverified. These earlier closures should not be confused with a newly announced Indiana shutdown program.
