Indianapolis, IN – With heavy hearts, Hoosier Enquirer announces the heartbreaking loss of our beloved CEO and friend, Bobby Kern, who passed away today, Friday, April 3, 2026, at IU Methodist Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. Surrounded by his closest family and friends in his final moments, Bobby succumbed to a major stroke. He was only 62.

Bobby wasn’t just our leader—he was the heart and soul of Hoosier Enquirer. His passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to truth touched every person who had the privilege of knowing him. A true Hoosier through and through, Bobby poured his energy into building a news outlet that stood for something greater than headlines: honest journalism that served the people of Marion County and central Indiana.

His sudden departure leaves an enormous void. As a dedicated candidate for Marion County Clerk, Bobby fought tirelessly for transparent government, fair elections, and a Clerk’s office that truly worked for everyday Hoosiers. He dreamed of modernizing systems, protecting voter integrity, and restoring trust in local institutions. Those who heard him speak on the campaign trail felt his genuine care and fierce determination to make Indianapolis better for all.

In the wake of this devastating loss, Donna Kavanagh, Vice President of Hoosier Enquirer, has stepped in as acting interim president. She will guide the organization until the board meets later this week to elect new leadership.

The Hoosier Enquirer family is grieving deeply today. Bobby’s warmth, humor, and dedication left an indelible mark on everyone he touched — from his colleagues to the readers and community members who believed in his mission.

Funeral arrangements and details for a public memorial service will be shared in the coming days. We kindly ask for privacy and prayers for Bobby’s loved ones as they navigate this profound loss. The community is invited to share stories, memories, and tributes on our platform so we can celebrate the remarkable life he lived.

Though our hearts are heavy, Hoosier Enquirer will continue its important work without interruption under interim leadership. We remain steadfast in our promise to deliver fearless, truthful reporting — a promise that honors the man who built this organization with so much heart.
