Anthony Taylor is the South Bend Man who Turned Himself In After Eddy Street Shooting Near Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Anthony Michael Taylor, 19, has turned himself in after a shooting at Eddy Street Commons that wounded a teenage girl and a South Bend police officer as Notre Dame played Michigan State on September 19, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Taylor is charged with three felonies, but he is not charged with murder, and no death has been reported in this case.

Prosecutors charged Taylor, of South Bend, with one count of battery by means of a deadly weapon and two counts of criminal recklessness. Investigators used witness accounts and surveillance video to identify a suspect, ABC57 reported, citing the prosecutor’s office. The office said Taylor surrendered over the weekend; WNDU reported that he was booked into jail on a $10,000 bond.

The 17-year-old girl was shot in the leg, while an officer working security at Brothers Bar & Grill was struck by shrapnel, according to charging documents described by WNDU. Prosecutors said both are expected to recover fully. The gunfire erupted in a crowded area near the university as the September 19 football game was beginning.

The incident prompted a temporary shelter-in-place alert on campus and a police search around Eddy Street Commons.

The shooting has also changed business hours at the dining and retail district. Management is requiring businesses at Eddy Street Commons to close by midnight, WNDU reported. Taylor’s next court date is scheduled for October 21.

The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proved guilty. Yep.
