The scoreboard at Warren Central High School read 53–37 for the home Warriors over Lawrence North. Within the hour, Indianapolis police were working a double gunshot scene outside the same east-side campus — and by Saturday morning they still could not name a shooter.

Warren Township school police contacted the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department about 10:35 p.m. Friday to report a girl with a gunshot wound near the school at 9500 E. 16th St., Capt. Don Weilhammer told WRTV and WISH-TV. Officers who arrived found a boy with a gunshot wound first, then located the girl, Weilhammer said.

Hospital updates that night put the boy in serious condition and the girl stable. Weilhammer said he did not know whether either was enrolled at a local school. Ages and names were not released. Investigators had no immediate information on who fired the shots or what led to the gunfire, the Circle City Broadcasting reports said.

Final whistle, then a crime scene

The Warren Central–Lawrence North game aired live on MyINDY-TV 23. IndyStar and FOX59 also reported IMPD’s response after the contest. Metropolitan School District of Warren Township did not immediately answer Circle City Broadcasting’s request for comment. The district is on break next week, the stations noted.

No suspect description, no motive theory, and no arrest announcement had been released as of early Saturday. Until someone is charged, the public record is limited to Weilhammer’s briefing: two people shot near a high-school football night, one seriously hurt, and an open hunt for whoever pulled the trigger.

What law enforcement still owes the east side

Friday-night football is supposed to end with traffic and taillights, not trauma bays. Indianapolis already spends heavily on public safety — including the camera networks and tip systems city and state officials keep advertising. A school-adjacent shooting with an empty suspect board is the accountability test that matters more than press-conference slogans: identify the shooter, make the case, and tell parents why two young people left a football night in ambulances.

Anyone with information can contact IMPD. The Hoosier Enquirer will update this story when police name a suspect or prosecutors file charges.
