MUNCIE, Indiana — What began as a cringe-worthy live TV slip-up has spiraled into a full-blown city hall crisis, complete with allegations of an extramarital affair, death threats against a city employee, a formal police report, and now serious questions about whether top officials—including Mayor Dan Ridenour, the Muncie Police Department, and the Delaware County Prosecutor—are attempting to bury the matter. At the center of the storm is Amber Greene, the City of Muncie's Communications Director, who handles the mayor's public messaging, livestreams City Council meetings, and manages official city communications. The Slip That Started It All The saga traces back to early February 2026. During a Muncie City Council meeting broadcast live, a transgender activist addressing the council—and confronting Greene over alleged anti-trans remarks—accidentally referred to her as “Director Amber Kantz” before correcting to “Amber Greene.” The Freudian slip sent shockwaves through the room and online. Greene, visibly flustered, abruptly left the meeting.

Within hours, the moment went viral on social media, fueling speculation. Multiple sources, including former city employees speaking on background to Hoosier Enquirer, alleged that Greene had been involved in an affair with Matt Kantz, a Republican candidate running for Delaware County Commissioner District 3. Whispers traced the rumored relationship to the 2024 Republican State Convention in Indianapolis, where attendees reportedly observed flirtatious behavior that extended beyond professional networking. Additional reports suggested Greene's marriage to local figure Chris Greene was already strained, with the alleged Kantz connection cited by friends as a contributing factor to ongoing divorce proceedings. From Scandal to Alleged Threats The personal fallout quickly turned professional—and potentially criminal. City employee Don Chambers was mistakenly blamed by Greene (and possibly others) for leaking details of the alleged affair to the media.

On or before February 23, 2026, Greene reportedly threatened Chambers' life, according to sources familiar with the matter. Chambers took the alleged threats seriously enough to file a police report with the Muncie Police Department. By February 23, the department confirmed Greene could face criminal charges for allegedly threatening the lives of city officials, including Chambers. The report documented claims of death threats and intimidation, separate from the earlier affair rumors.

As of late February 2026, no charges have been publicly announced against Greene, and she remains in her role despite the escalating controversy. Allegations of a High-Level Meeting and Cover-Up Credible sources have now informed Hoosier Enquirer that Mayor Dan Ridenour, representatives from the Muncie Police Department, the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office, and other city employees convened a meeting—reportedly on February 26, 2026—to discuss the threats and police report involving Greene.

Sources describe the gathering as an effort to coordinate a response that downplayed, delayed, or suppressed further action on the documented threats. If substantiated, such coordination could constitute official misconduct (a Level 6 felony under Indiana law) and obstruction of justice (another Level 6 felony).Hoosier Enquirer has formally reported these developments to the Indiana State Police, requesting an investigation into potential criminal cover-up. This is not the first time Muncie has faced scrutiny over alleged internal mishandling of serious matters; state police have intervened in past local controversies to ensure accountability. Questions Mounting for City Leadership Hoosier Enquirer has reached out directly to Mayor Ridenour (via mayor@muncie.in.gov), the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office, and Muncie Police Department leadership for comment on:

  • Confirmation or denial of the alleged meeting.

  • Any decisions made regarding the police report, charging decisions, or personnel actions.

  • The current status of any investigation into the February 23 threats.

  • Responses to claims of efforts to cover up or minimize the reported criminal conduct.
