Indianapolis City Council President Vop Osili Dismisses Indy Politics Allegations Against Diego Morales as "Bullshit" in the Special Election Caucus

ree

In a recent development that has stirred the political waters in Indianapolis, Vop Osili, the Democrat President of the Indianapolis City-County Council representing District 12, has publicly criticized an article published by Abdul Hakim Shabazz, the CEO of Indy Politics. Osili labeled Shabazz’s piece as "bullshit," addressing what he perceives as baseless allegations against Diego Morales, the current Republican Secretary of State of Indiana.

The Allegations

Abdul Hakim Shabazz, known for his political commentary and often provocative style, published an article alleging that the FBI was investigating Diego Morales for involvement with activities including RICO Act violations, gang-related activities, and money laundering. This hit piece, which appeared on Indy Politics, quickly circulated, prompting a significant response from both political figures and the public.

The FBI's Response

In an effort to clarify the situation, a reporter from the Hoosier Enquirer reached out to the FBI for a statement regarding these allegations. This past Friday, an FBI representative clarified their position, stating, "We neither confirm nor deny any investigation in conjunction with the Indiana Secretary of State. Reports circulating in tabloids regarding involvement with the RICO Act, gang activities, or money laundering are inaccurate and unfounded." This statement effectively debunked the central claims made by Shabazz.

Legal Repercussions

Following the FBI's public clarification, Diego Morales has taken legal action against Shabazz. Legal experts in Indianapolis have confirmed that Morales has a potential multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuit against Abdul Hakim Shabazz. This lawsuit could stem from the reputational damage caused by the now discredited allegations.

Osili's Stance

Vop Osili, who has a track record of engaging in city politics with a focus on community development and governance, expressed his displeasure with Democratic Precinct Committee members at the Special Election this past Friday about the article. The former constable recently pleaded guilty to official misconduct and was removed from the elected partisan position. A caucus was held Friday by Democratic precinct committee members to fill the vacant office that serves orders and summonses from the township small claims court. Kenneth Allen is the winner of that Special Election and will replace Denise Paul Hatch.
